The shortage of petroleum products recently experienced made most Americans aware of the fact that the energy resources of this nation are not unlimited. What may not yet be apparent to the casual observer is that the total energy consumption of our nation must continue to increase even if we establish a successful conservation program, and that we are faced with a frightening spectrum of implications associated with such an increase in total energy consumption on the one hand, and the conservation programs we must institute, on the other. This Energy Fact Book is a guide to some of the current and potential alternative sources of energy that can be exploited in planning for a crisis-free energy equilibrium.
