Abstract
The Illinois Mine Related Pollution Task Force is a joint activity of the Illinois Coal Association and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The Task Force's activities are coordinated by the Illinois Institute of Natural Resources. The Task Force decided that the achievement of their goal would be furthered by surveying rules and regulations governing mine related water pollution in other bituminous coal producing states. The basic problem which the Task Force is addressing in the survey is the extent to which other major bituminous coal producing states are experiencing differences between their effluent standards and their water quality standards and what, if anything, is being done to resolve differences where they occur. The states selected for study in this report are Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wyoming.
