Abstract
The Energy Report: Evaluation of Areawide Coal Production and Future Projections is Appendix C-1 of the Areawide Waste Treatment and Water Quality Management Plan for Southern Illinois. The report was prepared under Section 208 of the Water Pollution Control Act, as amended. The report forecasts the extent of expansion of coal mining and related industries to be expected in the Southern Illinois 208 area between 1975 and 1980, 1981 to 1985, and 1986 to 1995. Particular emphasis is placed on identification of land uses that may change as a result of surface mining. Other matters of interest are the potential impact of coal gasification and liquefaction, as well as coal-fired power plants upon water quality, and the magnitude of population change to be expected as a result of all such developments.
