Abstract
The report gives results of a review of the Bituminous Coal Research, Inc. BI-GAS Process, from the standpoint of its effect on the environment. The quantities of solid, liquid, and gaseous effluents were estimated, where possible, as well as the thermal efficiency of the process. For the purpose of reducing environmental impact, a number of possible process modifications or alternatives were proposed, and new technology needs pointed out.
