Abstract
The investigation has as an over-all objective the study of the interrelationships between environmental conditions and the growth of Cladophora. The experiments were conducted to: determine the respiration and photosynthetic rates of Cladophora fracta and Cladophora glomerata under natural and laboratory condicions; ascertain the nitrate and phosphate requirements of Cladophora fracta and Cladophora glomerata under laboratory conditions. The investigations furnish fundamental knowledge concerning the physiological ecology of Cladophora. The information can be used to devise an effective method of controlling excessive growth of Cladophora and can be applied to the study of stream sanitation.
