For that reason, it is important that you regularly review your own situation with a benefits officer in your own agency. If you fell uncomfortable with the answers you are getting, ask to have your questions moved up the chain of command. In time, they will reach your agency's retirement counselor. In most cases, retirement counselors can provide you with a definitive answer. In the cases where they can't, they can get that answer form OPM's Agency services staff.
