Abstract
The Stage 1 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts Rule (Stage 1 DBPR) applies to water systems that add a chemical disinfectant such as chlorine, chloramines, chlorine dioxide, or ozone to their drinking water during any part of the treatment process for any purpose (e.g., taste, odor, color). EPA has developed three documents to address the requirements of the Stage 1 DBPR: (1) The Basic Guide--for community water systems (CWSs) and non-transient non-community water systems (NTNCWSs) that add a chemical disinfectant and serve fewer than 10,000 persons. (2) Supplement A--for CWSs, NTNCWSs, and transient non-community water systems (TNCWSs) that use chlorine dioxide and CWSs and NTNCWSs that use ozone. (3) Supplement B--for Subpart H CWSs and NTNCWSs that add a chemical disinfectant and use conventional filtration.
