Abstract | The paper summarizes current knowledge on sources of primary particles in the U.S., and options for control of their emissions, Research needs and plans in the U.S., and options for control of their emissions. Research needs and plans are briefly addressed. A new national standard for particulate matter (PM) in the ambient air is being developed in the U.S. Whereas the current standard applies to PM < 10 micrometers in aerodynamic diameter (PM10), the standard being developed would also address PM < 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5). |
