Abstract | This report gives the results of a study designed to advance air quality maintenance planning for North Carolina on the basis of area and point source emission inventories supplied respectively by Engineering-Science, Inc. and the N.C. Air Quality Section. The study involved calibration of the Air Quality Display Model to detect data errors and to test hypotheses on emissions and their air quality impact. Final dispersion model calibration results and both graphical and tabular comparisons of calculated and observed TSP concentrations are presented. Mecklenburg County was modeled separately; Guilford and Forsyth Counties were modeled together. A unique feature of this study stems from the fact that North Carolina was one of the first to include nonexhaust particulate emissions from roadway vehicles in total large area dispersion modeling. |
