Abstract
An initial analysis of the economic impact of the proposed water effluent guidelines upon the Steam Electric Power Industry was performed, based upon planning assumptions being used by the Technical Advisory Committee on Finance for the National Power Survey. The most likely impact in terms of capital expenditures will be $4.0 billion through the next decade. Of this $2.7 billion will be required to meet the thermal and $1.3 billion to meet the chemical regulations, an increase of 1.9% through 1977 and 2.4% from 1978 to 1983. Annual operating costs should increase 1% during the next decade. The increase to the consumer will be less than 2%.
