This research was designed to assist the military (in this case, the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton, California) to carry out its mission in the context of regional management of biodiversity and related resources. Results of the research reported in this publication explain how urban growth and change in the rapidly developing region between San Diego and Los Angeles might influence the biodiversity and related resources of the region. As this is the context region of Camp Pendleton, the study integrates ecosystem parameters across an array of political and ecological boundaries involving species and other environmental issues and socioeconomic considerations. The research provides information regarding these issues, planning options, and possible consequences related to biodiversity to both the military and other stakeholders whose actions will influence the region's future biodiversity.
