Abstract
Octadecylamine and hexadecylamine were tested for mutagenicity to Salmonella in Ames assays conducted by the National Toxicology Program. Test results (data sheets) are presented. Assays were conducted at the limit of toxicity with Salmonella typhimurium tester strains TA97, TA98, TA100, and TA1535 in the absence and presence of exogenous metabolic activation from Aroclor 1254-induced rat and hamster liver. Tests with concentrations of 100.000 to 6666.000 ug/plate of octadecylamine in water, or of 0.300 to 100.000 of hexadecylamine in DMSO did not show evidence of mutagenicity, with or without S9 activation.
