Abstract
A customer has inquired concerning the toxicity of cyclohexene. What is its toxicity and what handling precautions should be required. Although this material has a low acute oral toxicity, it is somewhat similar to kerosene in its action. Like kerosene, lung congestion occurs after ingestion of the material. To avoid the danger of aspiration of the material into the lung during vomiting, pumping the stomach rather than emesis is recommended if large amounts are swallowed. The material is slightly irritating to the eye, causing conjunctivitis. The undiluted material is capable of easing a moderate irritation of the skin if the exposure is prolonged, This response is apparently only slightly increased by further applications. Because of the high vapor pressure of this material, concentrations capable of causing death in a very few minutes are attainable at room temperature in closed or poorly ventilated spaces.
