| Abstract |
The purpose of this document is to identify and briefly describe the specific methodologies that EPA and its contractors will employ when called upon to analyze environmental samples in times of national emergency. The methodologies presented in this document should be used to: Evaluate the nature and extent of contamination; and Evaluate decontamination effectiveness. The list of methods is limited to those methods that would be used to determine, to the extent possible within analytical limitations, the presence of chemical and biological agents of concern and to determine their concentrations in environmental media. The methods are not designed to be used for conducting an initial evaluation (triage) of suspected material to determine if it poses an immediate danger or if it needs to be analyzed in specially designed, highly secure facilities. Methods for addressing this analytical need are and will be the subject of other efforts. It is hoped that this document will also assist State and local governments in preparing for future emergencies. |
