Abstract | The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative is designed to empower states, local governments, communities, and other stakeholders involved in economic redevelopment to work together in a timely manner to prevent, assess, and safely cleanup brownfields in order to facilitate their sustainable reuse. As part of this Initiative, EPA has awarded cooperative agreements to States, political subdivisions (including cities, towns, counties), and Federally recognized Indian tribes to capitalize Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund (BCRLF) pilots. EPA defines brownfields as abandoned, idled, or underused industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. The purpose of the BCRLF pilots is to enable States, political subdivisions, and Indian tribes to facilitate the cleanup and redevelopment of brownfields properties. |
