Abstract
Treatment performance of three rapid infiltration basins receiving secondary treated municipal wastewater is evaluated at the City of Boulder, Colorado, Sewage Treatment Plant. The prime objectives of the project are evaluation of the pretreatment provided, the hydraulic load to the soil, duration of wetting and drying cycles, and climatic influences on system performance. Two of the basins have unscarified beds while one has a bed surface constructed in a ridge and furrow arrangement. Year-round operation allowed evaluation of applied effluent and infiltrated water collected from underdrains during extreme climatic conditions.
