Abstract
The report gives results of full-scale tests to evaluate combustion modifications (lower excess air and variations in the overfire air system operation) for emission control and efficiency enhancement on two wood-fired industrial boilers. Polycyclic organic matter (POM) was sampled at both baseline and optimum low-NOx conditions. Under baseline conditions, POM emissions were similar to those of a coal-fired spreader stoker and an oil-fired boiler, but were well below those of a pulverized-coal-fired boiler tested previously. For the wood-fired boiler, POM emissions in the low-NOx mode were higher than those at baseline.
