Abstract
Benzene is a human carcinogen, classified as weight-of-evidence Group A under the EPA Guidelines for Carcinogen Risk Assessment. Evidence on potential carcinogenicity from animal studies is 'Sufficient,' and the evidence on human studies is 'Sufficient'. The potency factor (F) for benzene is estimated to be 0.27 (mg/kg/day)(1-), placing it in potency group 3 under the CAG's methodology for evaluating potential carcinogens. Combining the weight-of-evidence group and the potency group, benzene is assigned a 'MEDIUM' hazard ranking.
