| Abstract |
The Union Scrap Iron Metal site is a vacant industrial property in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The site overlies an alluvial aquifer. Surrounding land use is primarily industrial and commercial, with adjacent residential areas. From the early 1970s until 1983, the site was used as a processing facility for used batteries and scrap metal. In 1987, a potentially responsible party removed 773 tons of battery casing material from the site. Two subsequent EPA removal actions in 1988 included the excavation and offsite disposal of onsite contaminated soil. A 1989 to 1990 remedial investigation determined that prior removal actions were effective in eliminating contaminated onsite soil and waste, and the low level ground water contamination does not pose any threat to public health. There are no contaminants of concern affecting the site. |
