Abstract
This report outlines the activities of the Environmental Management System (EMS) Demonstration Project, provides an analysis of how the project participants progressed in implementing the ISO 14001 Standard, discusses EMS implementation issues, incentives, benefits, and keys to successful implementation. The report provides a list of suggested EMS implementation guidance tools and presents information on lessons, learned from the project and suggested areas for further inquiry. Included in the report are case studies prepared by each participating organization. The appendices provide additional information on the background of the ISO 14000, EMS Standards and registration, questions asked of the participants, elements of the ISO 14001 Standard, and excerpts from NSF's EMS self-assessment tool.
