Abstract
System Requirements: Intel 486 DX or higher, MS Windows 95/98 or NT 3.51 with Service Package 5 or later, 12 MB of RAM for Windows 95/98; or 16 MB of RAM for Windows NT, 90 MB Hard-drive space, CD-ROM drive, VGA or better graphics, Mouse/Pointing Device. ABSTRACT: Although a myriad of literature on urban stormwater best management practices (BMP) design, maintenance and effectiveness exists, to date there has been no centralized, east-to-use, scientifically-sound tool for assessing the appropriateness of BMPs under various conditions. In addition, the information contained in the literature has not been collected and developed using consistent methods, reporting information, and analysis techniques that would allow for the scientific assessment of BMP design and resulting effectiveness. In response to this need, the Urban Water Resources Research Council of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) entered into a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to develop a scientifically-based approach and management tool for the information needed to evaluate the effectiveness of urban stormwater runoff BMPs nationwide. The long term goal of the project is to promote technical design improvements for BMPs and to better match their selection and design to the local stormwater problems being addressed. This database has been designed with a user-friendly relational database software package to enable consistent storage, retrieval, and use of BMP evaluation data. The data fields included in this database have undergone intensive review by many experts and encompass a broad range of parameters including test site location, watershed characteristics, climatic data, BMP design and layout, monitoring instrumentation, and monitoring data for precipitation, flow and water quality. Retrieved data can be printed or exported electronically to Microsoft Access or in comma-delimited text files for further analysis.
