Abstract
New gasoline-powered motor vehicle (light-duty and heavy-duty) emission factors, which supersede those in EPA Publication AP-42 (Compilation of Air Pollutant Emission Factors) for carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides, are presented based on a recent nationwide study of over 1,000 automobiles. These factors account for such variables as the model year, deterioration, and average speed differences. Sample calculations are included to illustrate the method of obtaining emission factors that are most representative of a particular region, vehicle mix (age and type), and average speed. Methods are given for obtaining estimates of area-wide (region or subregion) emissions attributed to gasoline-powered vehicles. The emissions contribution from other mobile sources is calculated using the values in Compilation of Air Pollutant Emission Factors.
