Abstract
A objective of the study was to assess the effect of water prices on household water consumption. On an a priori basis, the ability to identify the correlation between water consumption and price is greater, as the diversity lessens of other economic, socio-economic, and climatic variables which might affect usage. Therefore, price as a determinant of water demand can be isolated and measured by analyzing the relationship between price and quantity demanded in a highly homogeneous areas. The study area included 14 Mississippi cities, ranging in size from about 5,500 to over 21,000, each located in one of the 46 largely rural counties in the northern half of the state.
