Abstract
This report provides the most recent information available on the nature and extent of the danger posed by depletion of stratospheric ozone and the available alternatives for reducing ozone depletion by CFCs. The report begins by pointing out what is known and not known about the increases in stratospheric ozone caused by the release of CFCs, the resultant increase in damaging ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth's surface, and the consequences for plant and animal life, human health, and world climate and food supply. It then discusses steps that can be taken to control or eliminate the release of CFCs due to human activity. Areas of discussion focus on the feasibility, costs, and impacts of various technological alternatives for reducing CFC emissions, as well as the regulatory or economic-incentive measures that would be required to bring about these technological changes.
