Abstract
This ambient air monitoring program was initiated with the overall objective of establishing an air quality base line for the Four Corners area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. The base line will be used in assessing the impact of the development of coal deposits and the operation of large, coal-fired, electrical generating plants in the Four Corners area. A network of 29 monitoring stations was established to obtain data concerning the air quality in a predominantly rural area covering a multistate region. Results are evaluated in terms of the total suspended particulates present in the ambient air at each of the 29 monitoring stations on a seasonal basis from the winter season of 1975-1976 through the winter season of 1976-1977. Results also are evaluated in terms of the validity of the sampling and analytical procedures.
