Abstract |
The objectives of this task were to: (1) consider alternative methodologies for information collection, analysis, and presentation; (2) design a system for maintaining current awareness of the environmental implications of technology in the non-ferrous metals industry; and, (3) estimate the costs required to implement the detailed plans developed. Existing information centers and systems were studied and pilot sampling operations were conducted to determine which elements were best suited to serve the considered awareness task. Investigation and selection of the preferred elements for the task were accomplished under the guidance of the project officer, with input-output options of the information system being developed to match specific requirements. The input-output elements recommended to serve this awareness function include primarily the reliance upon a preferred list of periodicals (augmented by symposia, reports, and communications with specialists), selection and analysis of information deemed significant by a senior technologist; and publication of an Awareness Bulletin on a timely basis. |
