Abstract | A novel process for the removal of sulfur dioxide from waste gases is described. In this process, SO2 is directly reduced to elemental sulfur by hydrogen sulfide which is in turn generated by reducing part of the elemental sulfur with natural gas. The objectives of the study made on this process are as follows: to demonstrate the feasibility of each process step; to construct and operate an integrated pilot plant using a real flue gas; and to develop design and economic data for full scale application to various waste gas streams.
