Abstract
Arsenic(V) can be effectively removed from water by adsorption onto activated alumina. Variables affecting the extent of adsorption include pH, temperature, and the presence of other ions in solution. Adsorption isotherms establishing a relation between solid and liquid phase arsenic concentrations at equilibrium can be developed by batch tests of 7 days or more. Despite the fact that batch tests expose alumina to uncharacteristically high initial arsenic concentrations, the resulting capacities were close to those obtained by minicolumn tests.
