Abstract
Chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides labeled with chlorine-36 would be very helpful in studies of the fate and toxicology of this class of compounds in resistant strains of arthropods as well as in higher animals. The use of exchange reactions appeared to offer a simpler way of preparing Cl-36 labeled compounds than their complete synthesis. In addition, study of exchange reactions can provide knowledge of the structural nature of compounds in relation to their properties in general. Using lindane, the gamma-isomer of 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexachlorocyclohexane (gamma-HCC), as a chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticide of importance chlorine exchange reactions between it and AlCl3 labeled with Cl-36 have been attempted.
