Abstract |
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) is changing a portion of the remedy selected in the operable unit one (OU1) Record of Decision (ROD) dated September 30, 1986, for the Metamora Landfill Site. Operable Unit 1 ROD (OU1 ROD) addresses the remediation of drummed waste and contaminated soils in Drum Area 1 and Drum Area 4. OU1 ROD selected off-site incineration of the drums and soils in Drum Area 1 and Drum Area 4. State lead remedial action work began in the spring of 1989 and continued until December 1990. During the summer of 1990, off-site incineration capacity became extremely limited and drums awaiting disposal began to accumulate at the site. In addition, many more drums were discovered than originally estimated in the Remedial Design. In April of 1991 a settlement was reached that addressed the completion of all remedial activity remaining at the site, including the completion of OU1. |
