Abstract
The report discusses the development of a new charged fog generator (CFG) by modifying a commercial rotary atomizer. Extensive field tests of the CFG (at a bentonite ore unloading operation) were performed to determine the dependence of its inhalable particle control efficiency (PCE) on various instrument settings and field conditions. The lifetime of the droplets seems to be the dominant factor determining the PCE; and PCE values were higher for higher applied voltages and higher water flow rates. The data suggest that, under optimum instrument settings, the PCE of water droplets could be doubled by charging the droplets.
