Abstract |
This study is primarily concerned with evaluating regional economic damages to human health, material, and vegetation and of property soiling resulting from air pollution. This study represents a step forward in methodological development of air pollution damage estimation. It attempts to construct essential frameworks of the physical and economic damage functions which can be used for calculating comparable regional damage estimates for the several important receptors--human health, material, and household soiling--however, tentative the damage estimates may appear to be. More importantly, aggregate economic damage functions instrumental for transforming the multifarious aspects of the pollution problem into a single, homogeneous monetary unit are tentatively derived and illustrated. These results should be of use to policymakers as they make decisions on programs to achieve optimal pollution levels. |
