Abstract
In 2002, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched the Aging Initiative to develop a National Agenda for the Environment and the Aging to help guide the Agency's efforts to protect the health of older persons. This document is intended to orient EPA scientists and risk assessors to physiological and biochemical factors in the elderly that may influence their responses to exposures from environmental chemicals. Although it is not a comprehensive review of literature, the document identifies several data gaps and research needs that may inform the Office of Research and Development's Research Initiative on Aging in conducting research for better characterize risk to the elderly population from exposure to environmental agents.
