Abstract
The report summarizes the results of a three year study of the transport, fate, and geochemical interactions of mercury, cadmium and other inorganic pollutants in the southeastern coastal littoral-salt marsh environment. The general objectives of the study were to determine: (1) The rate of input of these materials to salt marsh estuaries, (2) the geochemical interaction they experience there and, (3) their ultimate fate in coastal littoral waters. The results provide a base for future evaluation of the rates of inputs of the metals studied and their existing concentrations in the water and sediment column of salt marsh estuaries.
