Abstract
Waste-Treatment Processes (AWTR). A variety of methods have been used to remove part of the pollutants from wastewater before it is discharged. In many situations, existing methods are not adgquate to provide the degree of treatment required to control pollution effectively. Research in waste treatment is being directed at developing methods ranging from lower-cost or higher-efficiency versions of conventional treatment technology to total wastewater purification systems capable of removing virtually all pollutants and even of producing reusable effluents. The Federal Water Pollution Control Administration's research in this area covers the entire field of waste treatment including treatment of industrial wastes, with special emphasis given to waste-treatment methods capable of total pollution control and purification of wastewater for deliberate reuse. This subseries, Waste-Treatment Processes, contains reports on results of this research by the Administration. (Author)
