Abstract |
The general procedure for assessing air quality is predicated on the application of mathematical diffusion models for estimating existing and future ambient air quality levels. The procedure consists of four subtasks: Collection of data on emissions, meteorology, and air quality; verification of the model using measured air quality; forecasting of future emissions; and estimation of future air quality. The remainder of this document describes the procedures used in assessing air quality in urban areas: collection of data on emissions, meteorology, and air quality; and use of mathematical models in estimating present and future air quality levels. Recommendations based on the case studies are given. Included are estimates of the types of resources that are needed to carry out such studies. |
