Abstract
The ability of acetone cyanohydrin to induce mutations at the HGPRT gene locus in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells in vitro was evaluated in the presence and absence of Aroclor-induced rat liver S9 metabolic activation. Based on preliminary toxicity determinations, acetone cyanohydrin was tested for mutagenicity at 5 concentrations over the range of 100-950 ug/ml, with cell survival ranging from 101-37% without activation and 102-49% with activation. There were no significant differences between treated and control (untreated) cultures with respect to mutation frequencies at any of the concentrations tested, either with or withoutactivation.
