Abstract
An aerosol sampling and analysis program was conducted as part of the Regional Air Pollution Study in St. Louis. Ten automatic dichotomous samplers were operated in the field for two years and collected 35,000 samples. The procedures used for analyzing these samples for total mass and elemental composition are described in detail. The characteristics of the beta gauge mass measurement and energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence analyses are discussed, together with the factors that affect the precision and accuracy of the data.
