Abstract
The 1997 Compliance Report once again announces 100 percent compliance with the Acid Rain Program, now in its third year of sulfur dioxide (SO2) compliance and its second year of nitrogen oxides (NOx) compliance. Affected facilities continued to exceed the targets set for both pollutants by the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. The early reductions seen in 1995 and 1996 for SO2 continue, with affected utility units beating their 1997 target by 23 percent. The overcompliance with the NOx target also continues, achieving an average emission rate for Phase I units 16 percent below the compliance rate.
