Abstract
The chemical substance covered in this submittal is 2-nitropropane, CAS Registry No. 79-46-9. A toxicity study of 2-NP by inhalation was recently reported for the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health by Huntingdon Laboratories. Data from Huntingdon showed the compound to be well-tolerated in rabbits at 200 and 25 ppm and in rats at 25 ppm, over a six month exposure period. However, 200 ppm exposure in rats for six months resulted in massive liver damage and neoplastic changes. These later findings were not in agreement with those found in several other earlier studies.
