Abstract |
The objective of the project was to investigate the practical aspects of design and operation of batch-charged furnaces with refractory hearths for incinerating mixed oversized wastes, with special reference to the combustion and air pollution. The report illustrated a type of incinerator that was suitable for burning oversized wastes without smoke and without the necessity for prior sorting or shredding. A procedure was outlined for designing the configuration of combustion chambers, primary and secondary, and for sizing the air ducts, ports, and blowers. By means of mass and heat balances, the volumes of air and flue gas were determined. The prinicples and design factors were derived from tests on full-scale furnaces. |
