Abstract |
In the past, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations have required that gaseous pollutant calibration standards for ambient air and mobile source emission measurements be traceable to National Bureau of Standards (NBS) Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) or other approved gases. Recently, these regulations have been amended or interpreted to allow the calibration standards to be traceable either to SRMs or to Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) which may be purchased from specialty gas vendors. Traceability to either SRMs or CRMs will also be required in new regulations which are being developed for stationary source emission measurements. The purpose of this paper is to discuss EPA's performance audit program for CRMs. This program is part of a comprehensive quality assurance effort which permits CRMs to be considered as essentially equivalent to SRMs. |
