Abstract
This paper presents a study in the development of a test method for the measurement of carbonyls from stationary source emissions. This method involves collection of carbonyls in midget impingers, derivatization of carbonyls with O-2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl hydroxylamine hydrochloride (PFBHA), separation of carbonyl-PFBHA derivatives by gas chromatography (GC), and measurement of the derivatives with electron capture detection (ECD). Formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, acetone, butyraldehyde, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, and hexaldehyde were selected as candidate for the method evaluation.
