Abstract
A continuation is reported of earlier water quality studies of the Haw and New Hope Rivers of North Carolina - the principal tributaries to the Corps of Engineers New Hope Reservoir. Included are fates of conservative and non-conservative substances. Benthic macroinvertebrates showed direct relationship to water quality, though bottom characteristics were also important factors. The benthic organisms appear to provide an integrated screening for establishing gross differences in metal concentrations derived from overlying waters.
