Abstract |
This workshop explored the concept of final ecosystem services and the corollary concepts of intermediate services and production functions -- and its relevance to the design of ecological monitoring systems that can support decision-making. The focus of this exercise was on one type of ecosystem -- streams. In addition to this specific purpose, the workshop report (under the heading Other Questions) also documents key elements of the broader discussion that needs to take place between natural sciences and social sciences if we are to succeed in making the contribution of ecosystems to human well-being a richer part of our decision making. |
