Abstract
Measurements were made relating to the behavior of water-vapor plumes from forced-draft cooling towers and from cooling ponds. There were three categories of measurements. (1) Ambient weather data including temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction. These measurements were made with standard meteorological equipment. (2) Source data, including the temperature, mixing ratio and flowrate of the air leaving the cooling tower or cooling pond. Cooling-tower measurements were made with a traverse rig. Cooling-pond source data were estimated using correlations. (3) Water-vapor distribution in the atmosphere in the vicinity of the source, including temperature and mixing ratio of air above the ground at various locations with respect to source. These measurements were made with tethered-balloon-borne radiosondes.
