Abstract | The Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act direct the Environmental Protection Agency to determine the available treatment technologies for a number of hazardous waste streams, including halogenated organics. If it is determined that existing technology and capacity is sufficient for the safe management of the designated halogenated organic wastes, then these wastes will be prohibited from land disposal, effective July 8, 1987. The article summarizes the general characteristics and treatment alternatives for this waste category. |
