Abstract |
The report describes the results of surveys of selected organochlorines and metals in Monroe Harbor and adjacent Lake Erie. Seasonal surveys at 3 sites of contaminant distribution in the water column were designed to support exposure effects studies and mass balance modeling. Chemicals studied were PCBs and heavy metals. Both total and particulate PCBs and total and filtrate (dissolved) metals were measured. Contaminant concentrations were highest at station 29, the power plant discharge near Lake Erie. Contaminant concentrations were more variable during high flow conditions in the spring of the year. PCBs tended to concentrate near the surface waters while metal levels were elevated near the bottom. |
