The report is the first annual report on the Fine Particle Emissions Information Systems (FPEIS), a computerized data base on primary fine particle emissions from stationary sources. The report summarizes changes made in 1978, including the expanded reporting of chemical analysis data, the entering of confidential or proprietary data, and the development of computer software to aid users in interpreting the FPEIS data. It lists new data added to the FPEIS in 1978 and outlines objectives for 1979, including the addition of biological and radiological analysis results and the implementation of a new source categorization protocol. The FPEIS provides a centralized inventory of fine particle measurement information for researchers engaged in fine particle control technology development and in the environmental assessment of energy and industrial processes. From an initial data loading for about 50 test sites in January 1977, the FPEIS program had grown to 120 test sites and almost 2000 sampling runs by the end of December 1978.
