"Hydrogen chloride (HCl) emissions from hazardous waste incinerators are regulated by the U.S. EPA under Subpart ) of 40 CFR 264. The HCl emission limit for hazardous waste incinerators (HWI's) is expressed as a mass rate of 4 pounds per hour or 1% of the HCl entering the pollution control equipment. Until recently, techniques to adequately quantify the HCl in HWI effluent using either instrumentation or wet-chemistry sampling methods have not been evaluated. A field project was conducted to evaluation the performance of commercially-available HCl continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS's) and a proposed manual sampling and analysis methodology to determine their adequacy and effectiveness in measuring HCl emissions at an HWI."--Abstract. |
